Top 5 Tips to Moving Into Your Residence Hall

By Jeff, The Awkward Freshman

Hey all,

Moving is always hard. I say this because I am sitting in my room wondering what the heck I am going to bring to Chico! I mean, it’s just around the corner! My nerves want me to bring everything possible, yet my brain is yelling, “How is it going to all fit?!”

I decided to do some research and compile my findings into my top 5.

Have your Wildcat/University ID card for when you check-in.  It’s the only form of ID UHFS will accept for move-in!

#2 Find out what you can and cannot bring:

The University Housing website has a list of what to and what not to bring: Click Here<>

#3 Pack light

I was told by a student to bring summer-like clothes now and then when you go home for Thanksgiving break; you take those clothes home and bring winter clothes up.  (Maybe pack a few jackets for those random cold days.)

#4 Keep an open mind

“Everyone comes from a different background, but moving into the residence halls everyone is going through the same thing. Keep an open mind so you don’t close off any opportunities for a friend or a helping hand in the future.”  Alli Cleland (Resident Advisor)

#5 Be excited

“Moving into the Residence Halls was very exciting for me! I was eager to know my roommate, my RA and the people I was sharing the building with. The most memorable part for me was checking in and then searching for my assigned room.” Amanda (Resident Advisor)
